AMA Loretta Lynn Area Qualifier comes to St. George Motoproving Grounds

ST. GEORGE – One of 51 AMA Loretta Lynn Area Qualifiers, taking place in 32 states throughout the country in preparation for the Regional Championships, will take place this Saturday and Sunday at the St. George MX Park.

The race is a national caliber race that brings in racers from all over the Southwest Region, MX racer Eric Miller said.

“This is a qualifier for the Grand Daddy of them all, the Loretta Lynn MX National Championship. Being one of the biggest sporting events to hit St. George, Utah in a very long time,” Miller said.

The Area Qualifiers serve as the first step in qualifying for the world’s largest and most prestigious amateur motocross championship – the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at the Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn.

The Regional Championships then serve as the next step to seed riders into the National Championship at the Loretta Lynn Ranch.

Only riders who finish in a qualifying position at a Regional Championship are eligible to race the National, which takes place July 28 through Aug. 2.

“It has long been the goal of MX Sports and the AMA to produce a geographically balanced schedule and we’re pleased to announce that most of the rider base lives within 150 miles of an Area Qualifier,” MX Sports Event Director Tim Cotter said. “MX Sports is confident that the 2014 schedule reflects the best organizers and the best facilities in America.”

The St. George MX Park is one of eight new facilities across the nation to join the lineup for the AMA Loretta Lynn Area Qualifier.

“Both the AMA and MX Sports worked very hard to produce a schedule that is geographically balanced with the best organizers in the country that support the AMA and the AMA’s mission to protect and promote motorcycling,” AMA Motocross Manager Kip Bigelow said.

“Being one of the biggest sporting events to hit St. George, Utah in a very long time,” Miller said.” Really now? I understand the excitement from Mr Miller but also know reality and this isn’t close to be anywhere near the biggest sporting event in St George. There are numerous events with hundreds and thousand of participants yearly!
