CEDAR CITY — After a Cedar City Wal-Mart theft Saturday, a localized police search netted two thieves with stolen property from several previous thefts as well as drug paraphernalia. Upon inspection, Iron County Sheriff’s deputies found both the driver and passenger to be on Utah felony probation and booked both suspects into the Iron County Jail. There was also a 2-year-old child in the vehicle during the traffic stop and subsequent arrest who was later released to her mother.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., Saturday, the Cedar City Communications Center broadcast an attempt to locate a black Ford F150. The occupants of the vehicle were suspected of being involved in a theft at the Wal-Mart in Cedar City.  According to a press release from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office, within minutes deputies from the Sheriff’s department stopped the vehicle on Cross Hollow Road.

During the course of the traffic stop one of the stolen items was seen in plain view in the truck.  Deputies obtained consent to search the vehicle from the driver, Timothy Miera who was also the owner of the truck.  During the search other stolen items were located.

The driver, Timothy Miera, and the passenger, Javier Johnson, were taken into custody.

While conducting the investigation deputies learned that both suspects were on felony probation in Utah.  Johnson was also wanted on a $25,000 felony warrant for burglary out of the 3rd District Court in Salt Lake City.

A consent search of the apartment where both suspects lived was conducted by deputies and agents from Adult Probation and Parole and more stolen items were located in the apartment.

Ten airsoft guns, multiple CO2 cartridges, an X-Acto knife kit, and ammunition for the airsoft guns were all recovered.  All of these items are believed to have been stolen over the last three weeks from the Wal-Mart store.

Also located were items believed to be from a separate burglary of a vehicle and narcotics paraphernalia.  Both Miera and Johnson were arrested and booked into the Iron County Jail.

Johnson was charged with two counts of felony theft, vehicle burglary, drug possession, giving false personal information to a police officer, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, carrying a dangerous weapon while under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, the warrant out of Salt Lake City and a probation violation.

Miera was charged with felony theft, internal possession of drugs, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, and a probation violation.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
