Dixie State shot just 37.7 percent from the floor and the poor shooting left the normally high-scoring Red Storm on the short end of the stick in a 73-65 first-round NCAA Tournament loss to Cal Poly Pomona Friday afternoon in San Bernardin, Calif.
DeQuan Thompson was the lone Storm player to hit more than half his shots as the Broncos, known for their stout defense, held DSU to more than 20 points below its season average per game.
Thompson led Dixie State with 17 points. Dalton Groskreutz had 11 and Zach Robbins and Kimball Payne added 10 each as DSU finishes the season with a 21-7 record.
Pomona, 22-6, advances to Saturday’s West Region semifinal.
