Shirley “Lee” Marie Brown

Brown, Shirley Obit(May 26, 1926 – February 18, 2014)

Surrounded by her family, Shirley “Lee” Marie Brown passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Lee was born May 26, 1926 in Pocatello, ID where she grew up and graduated high school. She moved to Salt Lake City to continue her education and subsequently met her husband and best friend Earl Brown. They married on February 2, 1945 along with their best friends, celebrating a double wedding.

Lee had been an avid golfer, a passion she shared with her devoted husband; they were lifelong members of Alpine Country Club. Lee was also a bowling enthusiast, participating in numerous bowling leagues in the Salt Lake area.

In 2000, Lee and Earl relocated to Hurricane, where they continued their active lifestyle, including trips to Mesquite. After Earl’s passing in 2002, Lee lived independently and had great attitude about life. She genuinely appreciated spending time with family and friends. She became a skillful Mahjong player, a talent not easily learned at her age. She played several times a week with friends, and as she grew ill, her friends came to her house to continue the game, an act that meant so much to her. Lee also enjoyed playing cards at home.

We were extremely fortunate to have had such an amazing relationship with our mother and feel tremendously grateful for our time together. Lee instilled a sense of grace and class to everything she did. She loved life to the fullest, always looking at the bright side of things. Lee was extremely classy. It’s hard to say ‘see you later’ to such an elegant, generous and charismatic soul. She will be deeply missed.

Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Earl and granddaughter, Jackie. She is survived by daughters, Sidney Brown, Linda (Kurt) Johnson; grandchildren, Roxann Johnson and Jerry (Kris) Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Montana and Ellie.

The family would like to thank Hospice for their loving care, especially Carin and Tanya.
