St. George man arrested for suspected aggravated assault, robbery

LAVERKIN – Police arrested a St. George man Wednesday afternoon after he allegedly held a man at gunpoint for drugs.

A man went to a home in LaVerkin and demanded prescription drugs from the homeowner at gunpoint. The man, identified as Micheal Ryan Higginson, of St. George, went into the home while pointing the gun at the homeowner. Once inside, the homeowner’s wife and child were also encountered, LaVerkin Police Chief Lloyd Watkins said.

Upon seeing the homeowner’s wife and child, Higginson apparently “freaked out” and fled the home, Watkins said.

The police were contacted around 1:15 p.m., and quickly responded to the scene as they were already in the area. “We were just right around the corner,” Watkins said.

An officer also observed Higginson throw something into the bushes as he fled, the police chief said. A search of the bushes produced a small pistol.

Higginson was arrested and charged with two third-degree felonies for aggravated robbery and aggravated assault. He also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

The incident is still under investigation, Watkins said.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

He shoulda came in my house. We would have helped him with his addiction.

    • Bender February 19, 2014 at 6:05 pm

Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Carry on with those Dirty Harry fantasies.

      • doofy February 19, 2014 at 6:17 pm

I remember a guy on here saying he prayed for a robbery every time he went into the bank just so he could be a hero. Bizarre, violent, right-wing fantasies.

  • Bub's evil twin February 19, 2014 at 8:36 pm

This is why I like to keep company with my friends Colt, Smith and Wesson.

  • Pravda February 19, 2014 at 10:39 pm

The couple that live in the home with their child are NOT married. Did the reporter fib in order to not offend the delicate sensibilities of the local populace?

    • Craig February 20, 2014 at 10:02 am

Nah, he meant “spiritual wife.” This IS Utah, after all.

    • Betty February 20, 2014 at 6:16 pm

OMG! They are NOT married? AND they have a child? Does the Bishop know? Perhaps you should go Immediately to their home with the rest of the ward and insist they wear a sign saying they are “living in sin!” And maybe we should rip their child from their arms and place them in a “proper” home. Geez, Pravda, is that all you took from this article? Get off your high horse and just be nice.

Remember, when SECONDS count, the Police are MINUTES away. Oh, and Doofy and Bender, I’d like to hear your plan for when you encounter a situation where your life is threatened. Harsh language perhaps?

    • doofy February 20, 2014 at 1:50 pm

Sure someone threatens my family’s lives I’m gonna shoot them with my 9mm, but some of these gun nuts actually fantasize about it. Maybe a few too many Bruce Willis movies?

    • Bender February 20, 2014 at 2:16 pm

There is no question that the average Joe is safer not packing than he is packing. I know this ruins the fantasies that you gun fetishists harbor. The science is settled, the presence of a gun in a home/car makes you less safe. Now most of you gun nuts get your information from right-wing AM talk radio, the NRA and TV reality shows, so I understand that you are not in agreement.
      .
I’ve been around about 6 decades. I’ve owned guns and grew up hunting. I run out of fingers counting the number of people I personally know who have killed themselves with a firearm. It almost takes two hands for me to count the number who have been injured. I know no one who has saved a life because they had a firearm handy.
      .
I am just as concerned about my family being injured by a concealed weapon permit holder as I am an actual criminal.
      .
When you are frightened and confused by the world around you, I understand the desire to arm yourself. You have that right, but don’t think it makes you safer.
      .
Perhaps as I ease into my final decades of life and become more paranoid, impotent and scared of the stronger males around me I’ll change my mind and “gun up”. Never say never.

“Now most of you gun nuts get your information from right-wing AM talk radio, the NRA and TV reality shows, so I understand that you are not in agreement.”

And that right there is a huge problem. Believing the right wing lies is just a lot easier than listening to the truth for so many people.

      • Craig February 20, 2014 at 4:05 pm

“I run out of fingers counting the number of people I personally know who have killed themselves with a firearm. It almost takes two hands for me to count the number who have been injured.”

Your friends could have used a gun safety class. Their loss of life and injury isn’t about gun ownership. It’s about the respect not given to their weapons. For some people, it’s about ego and stupidity when they “think” their weapon isn’t loaded. Perhaps you can educate your friends.

        • Bender February 20, 2014 at 4:47 pm

“Perhaps you can educate your friends.”
          .
          The dead ones?
          .
Since many NRA members have passions that are near religious about their firearms perhaps a new redneck religion is being born. I can see NRA members assembling on stacking plastic chairs in the basements of town halls across the country to perform posthumous firearm education. “Dear dead brother, the reason you killed yourself had nothing to do with your depression or with hot, copper-jacketed lead at muzzle velocity. You simply did not respect the weapon.”

          • Dana February 20, 2014 at 5:36 pm

Sorry for your loss but Obviously he meant the live ones. And re:your friends/family using a firearm to commit suicide, that too is NOT about gun ownership. ANYONE who wants to commit suicide WILL find a way.

          • Bender February 21, 2014 at 12:12 pm

“ANYONE who wants to commit suicide WILL find a way.”
            .
You go ahead and tell yourself that Dana. I’m guessing the parents in two families of two girls at a local middle school who killed themselves with firearms in separate incidents last year are wishing that those guns had not been accessible.

          • doofy February 21, 2014 at 1:48 pm

Yeah really Dana, that’s a pretty shallow and callous statement.

      • Bub's evil twin February 20, 2014 at 5:22 pm

Bender. Please give us a link to your “settled science.”

        • Bender February 20, 2014 at 5:38 pm

The good Lord did not put me on this blue-green globe to teach mouth breathers to Google. Go get help from your kids.

        • Bub's evil twin February 20, 2014 at 5:42 pm

Bender. Just searched for the “settled science”. Wow, an overwhelming bunch of articles on the topic. Very interesting. Unprotected guns in the home and kids don’t mix.

        • Rick February 21, 2014 at 1:41 am

You know, it’s right there next to the links that explan how the “science is settled” on global warming. Oh excuse me. “Climate Change”.

          • Bender February 21, 2014 at 11:38 am

Bingo! There’s the attitude I was fishing for. “I get ALL my science from the Old Testament and the angry talking heads on Fox News! Them university perfessers and gubmit sciencey heads is talking bull puckey.”

          • doofy February 21, 2014 at 12:30 pm

LOL, the only place the global warming isn’t settled is in the right-wing “media”. That’s the place where they can make up their own fairy tales and call them “science”. Kind of like make-believe WMD in Iraq.

      • Was He Illegal February 20, 2014 at 6:12 pm

Was it Obama’s fault where these people kilt themselves?

  • doofy February 20, 2014 at 5:50 pm

I prayed to the Lord with a sincere heart, and he told me Obama is coming for my guns! Gotta keep locked and loaded at all times! I’ll be ready 😀

  • Was He Illegal February 20, 2014 at 6:11 pm

Was this guy one of those illegals or outsiders that locals like to blame for their own criminal behaviors? Isn’t it frightening the number of responses that revolve around violence? Guess the answers why Utah has the highest rate of domestic violence in the US. Now go to church, all you pretenders.

    Guns = Bad and Scary

  • makkie March 13, 2014 at 2:16 pm

You left wing lunatics make me sick.A gun NEVER killed ANYONE.People kill people.People were killing people and committing suicide LONG before guns came along.Evil is a human condition.Fix the human condition, you have NO gun issues.
A question for you liberal nut jobs-
Why is it OK to kill a million and a half babies a year via abortion but have such a problem with gun violence?
And just for the record I believe abortion is totally acceptable in cases of rape or incest, not to be used as birth control.
Why is one type of murder acceptable but not another?
People will find a way (and they do)to kill themselves or others without guns.
You going to ban them all?
    How about banning abortion?
And here is something else that gets me fired up.The redneck bigotry.
I would much rather be around a redneck than a liberal puke.
I would much rather be around a redneck than a illegal puke.
I would much rather be around a redneck than a liberal bigot puke.
Since when is owning a gun a “redneck thing”.Nice little pigeonholes you pukes like to lump gun owners into.
    Sorry not working(obviously).
Liberal idiots = Bad and Scary
