James Jerry Swan

Swan, James obit(December 3, 1924 – February 16, 2014)

James Jerry Swan was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma on December 3, 1924. His journey here on earth ended February 16, 2014.

Jerry lived a long adventurous filled life; from his childhood years in the depression, to joining the Army in 1942, then marrying Ruth Hartman on June 19, 1948. They were later sealed in the LA Temple on June 10, 1958. They were married for 38 years and together raised their family. He became an iron worker and he worked on the minute man missiles many feet below the ground, to walking on to 4” beams 52 floors above the ground on the San Francisco “Pyramid Building”. Then he was on to Alaska where he worked on the Alaska pipeline in Prudhoe Bay in sub-zero temperatures.

Jerry retired and married Martha Davis in Alaska, on Oct. 1, 1987. Together they went on a LDS mission to Macon, Georgia. They then served an additional LDS service mission in Alaska, in the Welfare Service Dept. In Jan. of 1999, he was called to be a sealer in the Anchorage, Alaska Temple. He served there till they moved to Mesquite, NV and later to St. George, UT, where he again served as a sealer in the St. George Temple.

Jerry has many loved ones above greeting him, including his parents, brother, first wife, daughter, two grandsons, and one great-grandson.

We that are left behind, Martha his cherished wife; sister, Tomasina (Don) Hall of Idaho; son, Michael (Michelle) Swan of Oregon and their 8 children and 17 grandchildren; daughter, Debi Swan (Alan Young) of Texas and their 4 children and 14 grandchildren; together with Martha’s family, Bonnie (Joe) Romero of Utah and their 3 children and 2 grandchildren, Teresa (Steve) Klein of Alaska and their 5 children and 2 grandchildren, Cindy (Howard) Loomis of Utah and their 6 children and 6 grandchildren and Whitey (Trina) Davis of Alaska and their 5 children.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the Westridge Chapel, 415 N. Westridge Dr., St. George, UT.
  • There will be a viewing Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff and also Saturday prior to services from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the chapel.
  • Interment will take place in the Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 S. Dixie Dr., St. George, UT.

In lieu of flowers family requests donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
