ST. GEORGE – A purple, flower-bearing throne (of the bathroom variety) mysteriously appeared in front of Vantage Realty in St. George Monday. Taped to the purple throne on the doorstep of the privileged place of business was a note proclaiming the arrival of the “Purple Potty.” Just who are the masterminds behind the unorthodox flower pot? And what is its purpose?
The note left behind provided some valuable clues to the identity of the perpetrators.
“Let’s fight cancer!” the note starts out. “To raise awareness, as well as fundraising the upcoming Relay for Life here in St. George, you have been privileged to receive the Purple Potty!”
The note goes on to tell targeted businesses that for a mere $100 the purple flower throne can be removed. But wait, there’s more: an additional $50 guarantees the purple potty does not return to the same business in the future. Throw in another $50 and the donating business gets to pick which business gets graced with the Purple Potty next.
“It’s a tongue-in-cheek way to get businesses to donate to Relay for Life,” said Steve Burgess, a member of the Relay for Life committee, as well as participant. Relay for Life is a 24-hour walk-run event that takes place worldwide and is sponsored by the American Cancer Society. The event helps create cancer awareness and also raises funds for cancer research.
Each day the Purple Potty will be found at the front door of a new business, Burgess said. Starting Friday, the floral-bearing toilet will be parked at the first home on the Parade of Homes. During that time people can vote for which business they would like to see the Purple Potty visit next. The winners will get to share in the joy of having the Purple Potty sit upon their doorsteps, as Vantage had Monday, and others will in the days to come.
“We’re happy to make a contribution and make it go away,” Vantage’s principal broker Steve Kemp said joking.
Just to make sure the Purple Potty doesn’t end up where it’s not wanted, though, fundraiser representatives do contact businesses prior to the flowering pot’s momentous, yet brief, appearance.
The 2014 St. George Relay for Life will be held April 25.

Cute idea. I like it!
Genius!! Super fun way to raise money for a fantastic cause!
This is sooooo cool! I can’t wait to find out where it’s gonna poop…..I mean “Pop” up! Kinda like “Where’s Wally”
I hope there are no party ‘poopers’ out there and get upset if this shows up on their door step! What a great idea. Wishing everyone involved much success in ‘flushing’ out cancer.
