Game outlook: What an escape for the Warriors Wednesday night, literally a split second away from dropping a home game to rival Dixie and getting swept by the Flyers. But that’s in the past and the Tigers await Snow Canyon. One thing is sure, the hard-fighting Tigers will not be intimidated. These two teams met last month at SC and Hurricane led at the half, 42-41, before falling 72-66. Of course, since then Hurricane is 0-5 and SC is 4-1, but the Tigers have to feel like this is one they could steal. It seems like Hurricane is too good a team and plays too hard to lose 10 games in a row, but that’s what it’ll be if they fall tonight. For SC, focus is key as any slip-up now could cost them a region title. The Warriors have a definite size advantage on the front line.

Pine View (16-3, 8-2) at Cedar (11-7, 6-3), 7 p.m. at CHS
Broadcast: 890-AM KDXU, with Andy Griffin on play by play; 590-AM KSUB (in Cedar City)

Pine-view-smCoach: Darrell Larsen
Record: 16-3 overall, 8-2 in region
Streak: 1 losss
Last five: 4-1
PPG: 65.9
PAPG: 55.1
Probable starters: Chaz Peterson (11.8), Jack Bangerter (8.8), Kody Wilstead (14.1), Collin Dowdell (10.4), Jed Newby (5.3)
Other key contributors: Ryan Koller (8.6), Garrett Bowker (2.1), Kendrick Spencer (1.5)

cedar-smCoach: Craig Cardon
Record: 11-7 overall, 6-3 in region
Streak: 4 wins
Last five: 4-1
PPG: 52.7
PAPG: 47.9
Probable starters: Kordan Nielson (17.8 ppg), Dustin Staggs (13.6), Kyle Wood (5.3), Weston Bettridge (3.1), Greyson Hulet (2.6)
Other key contributors: Kole Dotson (2.0), James Thompson (1.6), Ben Brown (.6), Jaren Forsyth (2.1)

Game Outlook: Pine View’s loss to Canyon View was a shocker all right and it doesn’t get any easier for the Panthers, who struggled with Cedar in the Pit last month. Koller hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the win, although PV did lead most of the game and it took a couple of huge 3-pointers by Nielson to force the late-game heroics by Koller. It was also a Battle Royale between big men Wilstead and Staggs and we expect the same tonight. Pine View was without Bangerter that night and it will be interesting to see what his defensive prowess will do against the high-scoring Nielson. The last match-up was in the 30s (35-32), which is a huge advantage for Cedar. Pine View would rather see this game in the 60s or 70s.

Canyon View (6-13, 3-6) at Desert Hills (10-8, 5-4), 7 p.m., at the Thunderdome
Broadcast: Kickin’ 94.9 FM

canyon-view-smCoach: Rob Potter
Record: 6-13 overall, 3-6 in region
Streak: 1 win
Last Five: 3-2
PPG: 53.1
PAPG: 59.6
Probable starters: Keaton Kringlen (8.7 ppg), Koy Huxford (10.7), Sterling Barnes (6.6), Derek Dunnell (3.8), Ty Nielson (5.1)
Other key contributors: Travis Bettridge (4.5), Ryan Jensen (5.8), Ty Hollerman (2.0), Brycn Bybee (2.3)

Coach: Wade Turley
Record: 10-8 overall, 5-4 in region
Streak: 1 win
Last five: 2-3
PPG: 52.5
PAPG: 49.3
Probable starters: Taylor Houston (7.4 ppg), Quincy Matthews (13.1), Brycen Williams (5.3), Trey Tanner (6.4), Jordan Hokanson (7.5)
Other key contributors: Landen Broadhead (3.8), Sam Messinger (3.3), Austin Adams (4.2)

Game Outlook: We talk about the Falcons still being alive in the quest for a playoff spot, well right now the Thunder are the owners of that fourth spot and they don’t plan on giving it up. If DH wins tonight, they clinch a spot in the playoffs and officially eliminate both Canyon View and Dixie. It won’t be easy as the Falcons have been playing good basketball lately, beating Pine View, Dixie and Hurricane in the past couple of weeks. If CV were to win this game, the Thunder would still have a game lead on the Falcons with two left, so it’s not a must-win for DH, but it would be a big one. It is a must-win for Canyon View, which has won 3 of 5.
