ST. GEORGE — At approximately 2:05 p.m. Tuesday, power went out surrounding the area of 652 E. Riverside Drive. A car collided with a power box near the parking lot of the Bureau of Land Management Public Lands Information Center. The smashed power box caused the power in surrounding commercial and residential buildings to shut off.
The woman in the accident was up and walking around afterwards. No other people were involved, but the details of the accident will be released by St. George News shortly hereafter.
The box – a junction vault box – feeds power to quite a few people in the area. A crew of power employees were working on the power box as of 3 p.m. Tuesday.
The power shouldn’t be out too long, St. George Power employee Ray Birch said. However, once workers get the box fixed, power will be shut off again for a short time, and not necessarily in the same area, Birch said.
UPDATE: A full report of the car accident can be found here.
To report any power issues please call St. George Municipal Power at (435) 627-4800.
