HURRICANE — Rollovers are common, vehicle damage is expected at this weekend’s premier off-roading event, Winter On The Rocks. This event brings rock crawlers, jeepers and buggy drivers to the notoriously extreme off-road routes of Southwestern Utah, many of which are in the greater Sand Hollow State Park area. Most of the off-road routes wouldn’t even be considered trails by the common driver.
There will be scenic routes for stock vehicles, medium-difficulty trails for modified vehicles, and extreme routes for the hard-core enthusiasts. Both novice and experienced drivers with rigs of any type are invited to attend and explore these hidden routes just as fun, difficult and scenic as any in Moab.
This event is not set up for and does not lend itself to spectators.
A big portion of the trails are located between the fringes of Hurricane and Washington cities at the Sand Mountain off-highway vehicle area, adjacent to Sand Hollow State Park. This area is designated by Bureau of Land Management specifically for off-road vehicle use. Most public lands do not allow this type of use, and the Utah 4×4 Club encourages all users to be aware of restrictions and “Tread Lightly!”
The Utah 4×4 Club helps plan the event. This club is dedicated to the responsible use of public lands. The club’s activities range from hard-core rock crawling to easy family outings to public lands cleanup.
Note: Early driver registration has ended for Winter on the Rocks, but drivers can still register at the event.
