Man arrested in San Juan County for kidnapping

SAN JUAN COUNTY – A man was arrested Monday in San Juan County after a sheriff’s deputy recognized a vehicle reported to be used in an alleged kidnapping incident from the night before in Bountiful, Utah.

The San Juan Sheriff’s Office had information from the Bountiful Police Department that Dwayne Roland, 45, might be in the Monticello area of San Juan County. Roland who was suspected of kidnapping a woman and her son, a statement from the San Juan Sheriff’s Office said. A lookout was issued for Rowland’s vehicle, a gray 1999 Chevy Blazer. 

KSL reported the kidnapping involved Rowland’s wife and her teenage son. They had been reported missing the night before to the Bountiful Police who were unable to locate them at the time. The police subsequently notified the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office about the situation.

The woman was able to send a text message to her mother just before 10 a.m., Monday, claiming she had been beaten and abducted by her estranged husband. Her son remained unharmed, KSL reported.

Around 11:40 a.m., Monday, a San Juan County Sheriff’s deputy noticed the Blazer in the Blanding area traveling southbound. With help from a Blanding Police officer, vehicle was pulled over. Rowland was taken into custody at gunpoint without incident. He is currently awaited extradition by to the Bountiful area.

The woman and her son were taken into protective custody.

Persons charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
