(May 27, 1920 – January 9, 2014)
Maude Riding DeMille Bowers age 93 passed away January 9, 2014 of natural causes. Maude was born May 27, 1920 in Tropic, Utah to Julius Caesar Riding and Cleopatra Hall Riding. Maude was raised in Tropic and the Bryce Valley area where she attended elementary school and graduated from Tropic High School. Mother told of the wonderful childhood she had in tropic during the Great Depression. It was in Tropic, under the loving care of her parents, that she learned so many life lessons. Mom met and married Wallace Delworth DeMille in Panguitch, Utah July 24, 1940. Their marriage was later solemnized the St. George Temple.
Dad served his country in the 2nd World War and mom was left to raise her two sons in St. George. After the war, mom and dad made their home in St. George on 600 East where four more children came into the family. Dad passed away in 1979, and she remained single for several years when she met and married Robert Van Bowers. Mom loved to garden and have fruit trees and she preserved all that was produced. Mom loved to work hard and instilled this in her children. Mom was a very frugal, private and humble person that lived by “use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.” Dad became disabled and mother entered the workforce to help support the family and worked until she retired. Mother was a world traveler that loved to see and learn about people and places. Her favorite place was here in beautiful southern Utah. Mom loved to go on “road trips” with her best friend, Lucille. Together they made the perfect team that would not miss a sale or going out to lunch, especially if it was free. Mother was a member of the Tops club and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Mother was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved to do temple work. She also worked at the Bishop’s Storehouse with Robert.
Maude is survived by her children, Wallace L. (Mary) DeMille of St. George, L. Glenn (Neva) DeMille of St George, Rose Nerene Potter of Salt Lake City, Lloyd C. (Hester) of Washington, Utah, J. Stan (Sally) of Santa Clara, Utah; 32 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Wallace and Robert; son, Larry Delworth DeMille; parents; sisters; two granddaughters, Kara DeMille and Kim DeMille.
The family would like to express appreciation to Sam Seymore and his wonderful staff at Heritage Home and Applegate hospice care.
