ST. GEORGE – The public is welcome to attend a free Water-Wise Landscape Workshop on Turf Alternatives Jan. 11, from 10-11 a.m. at the Tonaquint Nature Center in Tonaquint Park located at 1851 South Dixie Drive in St. George.
Horticulturist Candace Schaible, Utah State University Extension, will present the different options available as an alternative to lawn. Attendees will learn what types of groundcovers work well in this area and for their specific yard. Schaible will go over groundcovers that need full sun, partial shade or like shade, as well as ones that do well for heavy, moderate to light traffic.
The workshop will also go into design, preparing the soil, planting and maintenance.
