Richey, Vaudis obit (1)(September 17, 1916 – January 4, 2014)

Vaudis Carter Richey, age 97, passed away peacefully in her home on the evening of Jan. 4, 2014. She was born on Sept. 17, 1916 in Minersville, Utah to the Parents of Horace L. Carter and Madge LeFevre. Vaudis was married to Howard J. Richey on Jan. 17, 1944 in Weatherford, Texas.

Vaudis was raised in Minersville, Utah and later attended Dixie College. She had lived in Texas and made her home in California, raising two children there, before retiring with her husband to Southern Utah in 1979.

She is survived by: her son Michael Ray Richey, and wife Meredith, Perry, Kansas;  Grandchildren-Robert Michael Richey and his wife Heidi, Mesa, Arizona and their five children-Elizabeth, Austin, Reagan, Paige and Macy; Scott Valindingham Richey and his wife Chelsea, Provo, Utah; Preston Howard Richey and his wife Jordana, San Diego, California; Charlotte Armstrong Richey and her husband Joseph Nations, Salem, Oregon and their daughter Cambria; Kyle Daniel Richey of St. George, Utah and his son Kyle Daniel Richey Jr.; Dante Caldwell and his wife Trisha, Whitefish, Montana; All of these felt blessed to have visited with her after Christmas prior to her death. Vaudis is also survived by- Brothers: Wilden Carter, St. George, Utah; Ned Carter, Hurricane, Utah; and sisters: Nellie Long, Urbana, Illinois; Joy Granger, La Habra, California;

She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard J. Richey in Dec. 1993, and her daughter, Julia Ann Richey Caldwell on Dec. 26, 2013.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at 11 a.m., at the LDS Church located on the corner of 700 E. 900 S. in St George.
  • A viewing will be held at the chapel from 9:30-10:30 am.
  • Interment will take place in the St. George cemetery immediately following the funeral services.

The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to Alliance Home Health Care (hospice) for their attentiveness, concern and care, especially during the last few months of her life.
