ST. GEORGE — Junior point guard Kaden Langston surpassed his previous career high — by 15 points — as Hurricane beat 4A Mountain Crest 50-45 Saturday on the final day of the Red Rock Rumble at Dixie State College.
Langston had 27 points and the Tigers built a double-digit lead in the third quarter and early in the fourth. The Mustangs rallied late in the final period, cutting a 40-30 deficit to 44-43 with 50 seconds to play. Langston quelled the rally with a leaning jumper from the lane with 37 seconds left. He also drew a foul on the pay and the and-1 free throw put the lead back to four at 47-43.
Mountain Crest cut it to 47-45 with 11 seconds left on a basket by Gaje Ferguson, but Langston iced the game with two free throws, making it 49-45. After a missed trey by the Mustangs, Jordan Ence hit a free throw to provide the final point.
Hurricane improved to 3-6 with the win, taking two out of three games at the Red Rock Rumble. The Tigers, who also got 12 points from Cody LeBaron, next play at Virgin Valley Jan. 3. Mountain Crest was led by Ferguson, who had 15 points. The Mustangs, 3-5, lost all three games at the tournament.
