SOUTHERN UTAH – During the 5 p.m. hour Saturday, a semitrailer jack-knifed on Interstate 15 southbound in the area of mile posts 36 and 37 on the Black Ridge in Southern Utah. The Fed-Ex semitrailer is blocking all southbound lanes, which are expected to remain closed to traffic until around 8 p.m.

The Interstate 15 corridor through central and Southern Utah and adjacent Arizona strip continue to receive heavy snow from a winter storm spanning the region.

Multiple traffic incidents have occurred as a result. From Millard County to the state line in Washington County, during the period of midnight to 5 p.m. Saturday, Utah Highway Patrol has registered 62 property damage crashes and three injury crashes with only minor injuries, UHP Trooper Lawrence Hopper said.

The continuation of I-15 through the Virgin River Gorge on the Arizona Strip has seen its share of the storm Saturday as well. As of 5 p.m., Arizona Highway Patrol Sgt. John Bottoms said the the gorge is open and passable, Arizona Department of Transportation is running snow plows and there have been no major incidents reported.

Since 5 p.m., there has been a traffic incident at Arizona mile post 25.9 on the Arizona Strip section of I-15. It was a single vehicle accident involving a Chevrolet pickup, Bottoms said, carrying three occupants all of who received minor injuries and are being examined by fire department personnel at the scene. The truck is off the road in an empty drainage canal in the median.

It took me 50 minutes to get from the Mall to my home in Hurricane, I was driving 15-20 MPH the whole way. I had a bunch of BIG Ford & Dodge trucks blowing past me at 50+ MPH. I saw a couple of them off in a ditch when I made my way by a while after. SLOW DOWN! You may not mind risking your life, but I sure mind if you risk mine! I worked an 8 hour shift after being up all night with a cold, I was in a hurry to get home to. But I wasn’t going to risk someones life to get there.
