ST. GEORGE — Two accidents occurred within thirty minutes of each other on the same block of 1000 East on Tuesday night.
The first accident happened at the corner of 1000 East and Red Hills Parkway when a gold Saturn passenger car struck a silver Volkswagen Passat after making an illegal left-hand turn.
The Saturn was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Red Hills Parkway from the parking lot on the south-east corner of the intersection. The Volkswagen was driving east on Red Hills Parkway when the Saturn pulled out into traffic.
“She looked, she said it was clear,” said St. George Police Officer Jamison Hale. “She tried to pull out and she hit (the Volkswagen) car on the passenger side front tire and busted the axel,” he said.
No injuries were reported, however the front passenger-side wheel of the Volkswagen had been bent inwards by the impact and the vehicle had to be towed. The driver of the Saturn was cited for failure to yield to oncoming traffic.
Just minutes later, a second accident happened one block away at the corner of 1000 East and St. George Boulevard. A woman driving a white Buick Century, traveling south on 1000 East made a right-turn at a red light on to St. George Boulevard and ran into the back of a tow truck that was just about to turn into the Conoco gas-station at the north-west corner of the intersection.
“She didn’t realize he was slowing to turn (into the gas station),” said SGPD Officer Tyrell Bangerter. “As he’s slowing to make his turn in, the driver’s side right fender caught the tail end of his tow truck.”
Both vehicles in the accident were still in drivable condition and no injuries were reported. Officer Bangerter said that the driver of the Buick was cited for causing a negligent collision.
