ST. GEORGE – A St. George man was arrested on suspicion of forgery Saturday after police were alerted by a local business that its checks had been stolen.
The business contacted the St. George Police Department about the checks, St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said. They thought an acquaintance of the business owners might be responsible for the theft, he said, and police investigated.
Police found the man, Anthony Green, 35, of St. George, who was accused of using three of the business’s checks on separate occasions.
Green was arrested Saturday for each instance, Despain said. He was charged with three third-degree felony counts of forgery and one count of class-B misdemeanor theft (for using money acquired through forgery to purchase an item). Bail currently stands at $17,206 total for the charges.
As this is an ongoing investigation the names of the business and its owners, victims of the forgery, are not being released by the police.
Persons charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
