OREM — Top-seeded Desert Hills, to no one’s surprise, cruised into the state semifinals. Hurricane and Snow Canyon scored some mild upsets to join the Thunder in volleyball’s final four, along with Region 10 champion Morgan.
The Thunder didn’t lose a game in defeating Park City and Payson in the first two rounds. Hurricane, which finished second in Region 9 this season, also swept through the first two rounds, recording twin 3-0 wins over Union and Region 11 champion Tooele. Snow Canyon, the Region 9 third seed, swept Uintah, then beat region 12 champion North Sanpete in four games, 25-18, 23-25, 29-27, 25-22. The Lady Warriors will battle Hurricane in Saturday’s 12:30 p.m. semifinal. The Tigers have beaten Snow Canyon in both meetings this season.
Morgan beat Dixie in four games and Stansbury in five to make it to the semifinals. The Lady Trojans will face Desert Hills in the first semifinal at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The winners of the semifinals matches will square off for the state championship at 5:30 p.m. at UVU’s McKay Events Center.
Dixie rebounded from its opening loss to sweep Carbon in the consolation bracket. The Lady Flyers play an elimination game at 9 a.m. Saturday.
