ST. GEORGE – As people roamed Red Cliffs Mall Thursday taking in the spooky costumes and Halloween melée, they were treated to a special show from the Hurricane Dance Fuzion teams, when a surprise flash mob struck the floor of the food court.
Many spectators unaware paused to pull up a chair as the music of Justin Bieber’s song “Power” began to overpower the noise of the mall. Moms and dads – who knew what was about to happen – pulled out their cameras and smartphones to video their kids. And just like that, quick as a flash, dancers appeared to materialize right out of the crowd in Dance Fuzion Dance Studio’s Halloween treat to the mall-goers.
In a segué from “Power” to LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem,” the floor soon was not to be owned by Fuzion alone. The anthem beat beckoned dancing feet, and Fuzion coaxed spectators in from the crowd to join and move to full-on Halloween party rock.
The Fuzion flash mob dancers numbered about 70, ranging in age from 4-75. They were led by instructor Dina Martinez, who has worked with big stars like Michael Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Jennifer Lopez. Martinez also leads classes for adults in she African, Bali, salsa, and hip hop dance genres, among other offerings, at the Dance Fuzion Dance Studio in Hurricane.
“The management at the mall liked the performance so much,” Martinez said, “they have invited us back for the Holiday season to perform on stage for them.”
