ST. GEORGE – A St. George man was arrested Sunday on drug and weapons charges after police recognized him as the possible subject of multiple warrants.
While at a gas station on Sunset Boulevard, Paul Paget, 38, of St. George, was recognized by an officer who believed Paget to have outstanding warrants attached to his name, St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said.
Paget was found to have four warrants out of Fifth District Court dating back to March 2013 totaling $80,000.
Paget was subsequently taken into custody, Despain said, and reportedly found to have drugs, a knife or knives, and a loaded firearm on his person. He has been charged with three class-A misdemeanors related to drug and weapons offenses, a second-degree felony for drug possession, and a third-degree felony for possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person. Combined with the warrants, associated bail/fines stands at $100,829.
Warrants are generally issued by the court when defendants fail to make scheduled appearances.
Ed. Note: Persons charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
