Dixie State University crowns Homecoming Queen

ST. GEORGE – Dixie State University senior Shaelie Knutson was crowned 2013 Miss Dixie State Homecoming Queen in front of a capacity crowd Wednesday night. The pageant was held at the Avenna Center Cox Auditorium as part of DSU’s Annual Homecoming Week festivities, which formally kick-off this coming Monday.

Knutson, a communication major from Preston, Idaho, won a full tuition scholarship and an opportunity to represent Dixie State and compete at the 2014 Miss Utah Pageant next June, where she’ll compete to advance to the 2015 Miss America Pageant.

Pageant hopefuls were judged in physical fitness/swimwear, evening wear and talent areas of the competition, along with the customary onstage question and personal interview portions of the event.

Rounding out the 2013 DSU Homecoming Royalty is first attendant Teysia Slater, a freshman elementary education major from Pleasant Grove, Utah; second attendant Jessica Jensen, a junior integrated studies major from Herriman, Utah; third attendant Kelby Morrison, a sophomore music major from Oakley, Idaho; and fourth attendant honors went to Lauren Randall, a sophomore psychology major from Upland, Calif.

Four additional awards were presented that evening, including the Director’s Choice Award presented to Brittney DeLeeuw, a freshman music major from Stephenville, Texas; the Community Service Award was given to Miss Dixie State Shaelie Knutson; Dominique Campbell, a freshman social sciences major from West Jordan, Utah, picked up Miss Photogenic honors; and Mazie Ludlow, a senior communication major from Turlock, Calif., was named Miss Dixie Spirit.

    Ya geeez why didn’t the bi racial sweet little catholic girl from st george win?? Really people??

      A non-white wouldn’t stand a chance in St. George even if she was the prettiest, the smartest and had the most merit to win. Personally, I think these pageants are antiquated and focus too much on looks. The schools don’t have “Stud Muffin” contests for the males.
