CEDAR CITY – A Cedar City man has been arrested for attempted murder.

At approximately  8:12 a.m. today,  the Cedar City Police responded to an assault in progress at an apartment complex near 468 South and 75 West.  When police arrived on the scene, they encountered 30-year-old Brandon Thomas Sappington, who appeared to have blood on his hands. Sappington placed one of  his hands into his pocket as he approached the officers. He refused to remove his hand from his pocket and continued toward the officer after being told to stop.

Once taken into custody, Sappington tried to kick and head-butt the officers while in handcuffs.

After securing Sappington, police located a man lying on the sidewalk near the place that they first found Sappington. The man suffered from serious injuries to include a large laceration on his head. EMS transported the man to Valley View Medical Center in Cedar City, and from there he was flown to University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he is currently in critical condition.

Sappington was booked into the Iron County Correctional Facility for attempted murder, assault on a police officer, interfering with an arrest, and a misdemeanor traffic warrant.

Cedar City Police won’t release the name of the victim until his family has been notified.
