Truck smashes through daycare wall, narrowly missing pedestrians

ST. GEORGE – An SUV careened off of the road last night and narrowly missed two pedestrians before crashing through the wall of a daycare center.

The accident occured sometime around 9:30 p.m. at the Discovery Clubhouse daycare center at the corner of Westridge Road and Sunset Boulevard, behind The Home Depot.

Daniel and Barbara Matthews were out for an evening stroll when they saw the truck jump over the curb.

“Me and my wife go for a walk at around 9 or 10 every night,” Matthews said. Daniel and Barbara had just passed the daycare center when a silver Jeep Laredo, heading south on Westridge, failed to turn around a bend in the road. Daniel says that he looked back and saw brake-lights as the vehicle hit the curb.

The truck crossed the sidewalk just a short distance from Daniel and Barbara. “My wife said that if she didn’t stop to tie her shoes when she did, we would have been hit.”

The Laredo crashed through a wrought-iron fence and destroyed a cinder block wall that stood between the daycare and The Home Depot nearby.

“Thank goodness nobody was injured,” said St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain. “The driver said a bottle fell on her leg, distracting her, and then her flip-flip got stuck in the pedal,” he said.

Both SGPD and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the accident, however nobody was taken to the hospital. The driver of the truck was cited by the police for improper lane travel.

For Daniel Matthews, the lesson to be learned here is simple: “Don’t wear wear flip-flops when you’re driving!”

It used to be called a thong, but that has a different meaning today.

What was she doing with a bottle between her legs? Didn’t St George just pass a law again anything that is suspected of being porn related?

A bottle fell on the leg and a flip flop got stuck in the pedal?- how does that result in driving into a day care?.. nice excuse dumb witch. It’s responses and excuses, and stuff like that, that makes public servants distrustful of the people, which then makes the flawed system even worse and more stacked against the common man. Good job lady!
