Red Storm Preview Capsule: Dixie St. at Western Oregon

GAME PREVIEW CAPSULE
Dixie State University (0-2, 0-1) at Western Oregon University (0-2, 0-1), 2:00 P.M. McArthur Field, Monmouth, Oregon
Previous Meeting: Western Oregon 66, Dixie State 20 (The Wolves amassed 696 yards on offense to even the season series at 1-1)
Broadcast: ESPN SportsRadio 106.1 FM

RED STORM
dsulogoHead Coach: Scott Brumfeld (4th year, 6-28 overall)
Offense: Pistol, Pro Set
Defense: Pro 4-3
Last Game: Lost to Azusa Pacific 36-20
Players to watch: Look for the defense to have another big game. The Wolves pass the ball 70% of the time, but have been plagued by turnovers (5 interceptions, 1 fumble) in their two games. If Jake Duncan, Robert Metz and the front seven can apply pressure, the secondary could benefit as WOU QB Ryan Bergman has been prone to errors. Look for the Dixie passing game to have a big day. Mitch Frei had a career day against WOU last year, and Joe Don Duncan has scored touchdowns in every game this year.

WOLVES
footer_wouHead Coach: Arne Ferguson (9th year, 51-37)
Offense: Multiple One Back
Defense: 4-3
Last Game: Lost to Central Washington 20-7
Players to watch: The Wolves rushing attack averages one yard per carry. Their offense is pass-heavy. Tyrell Williams has been Bergman’s favorite target with 12 catches and 190 yards receiving. The defense has been led by linebacker Devin Wells and defensive back Coulter Mastenbroek.

GAME OUTLOOK
Both teams are looking for their first win of the year. Dixie State is currently riding a seven-game losing streak dating back to last year and has never won at Western Oregon where they are 0-6. Like Dixie State, Western Oregon’s two losses were against quality opponents. However Dixie State looked much better in their losses than did Western Oregon. Look for Dixie State to break their losing streak and capture their first win of the year.
