SPRINGDALE – The Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway through Zion National Park was closed due to flooding Wednesday afternoon.
According to a press release issued by the park, the road between Canyon Junction and the east entrance of the park will be closed for the rest of Wednesday, and will likely remain closed through Thursday.
“Several sections flash flooded, including a ravine approximately a mile west of the small tunnel where flood waters blocked a road culvert and undercut the road,” the release stated. “The park itself will remain open and visitors can expect that shuttles, campgrounds, museum and Zion Lodge will be operating normally.
During the closure, drivers can detour around the park via state Route-59 between Hurricane and Fredonia Ariz., or from Cedar City, take SR-14 east to Long Valley Junction to pick up Highway 89 south to Kanab.
