Willing families, homes needed for Cedar City children; Utah Foster Care Foundation public forum

CEDAR CITY – The Utah Foster Care Foundation invites Iron County residents to learn about ways they can help local children in foster care at a free public forum on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Iron County School District offices.

There are approximately 2,700 children currently in the Utah foster care system — about 270 in Southern Utah — but less than 1,400 licensed foster families available to care for them. The need to find homes for displaced children is constant.

The need for foster families in Cedar City has never been more urgent,” said Debbie Hofhines, area representative for the southwest region of the Utah Foster Care Foundation. “We are doubling down on our outreach efforts to find more potential foster parents in this area.”

What is it like to be a child in foster care? What is it like to be a foster parent? These are just some of the many questions that will be answered at the forum, with the aim of inspiring community members to get involved.

The event is free, but reservations are required. To reserve a seat, contact Hofhines at debbie.hofhines@utahfostercare.org or 435-656-8065 or Amy Bates at bates4ever@hotmail.com or 435-463-7404.
