Lightning ignites wildfire in Iron County: Rush Lake Fire

IRON COUNTY – A new fire, named the Rush Lake Fire, was ignited by lightning Friday at 2:20 p.m. The fire is an estimated 300 acres and is located approximately 25 miles northwest of Cedar City along state Route 130. The fire is presently zero-percent contained.

The fire is making runs toward the northwest. Light precipitation over the fire is aiding in suppression efforts. The fire is consuming sagebrush/grass and some pinyon and juniper trees

No road closures are currently in effect. Travelers are urged to use caution along SR-130, especially as there is a significant amount of smoke in the area.

Two outbuildings and a pump house are currently threatened by the blaze, but risks have been moderated.

Multiple ground resources are on hand and battling the blaze. Air resources have been grounded due to weather.

No evacuations are currently in effect and no injuries have been reported.
