LEEDS – The Utah Highway Patrol released the name of the woman involved in Monday night’s fatal single-vehicle rollover on Interstate 15. The driver has been identified as Ruthann Goodwin, 28, of Cedar City.
In a statement the Utah Highway Patrol said Goodwin red 2003 Jeep Liberty was traveling northbound on I-15. When it reached a point where the roadway curves while passing by Leeds near milepost 23, Goddwin lost control of the vehicle for an unknown reason and veered left, impacting a concrete barrier. The jeep then went through the barrier and rolled into the left lane of southbound traffic. The accident occurred just after 7 p.m.
Goodwin, the sole occupant of the jeep, was ejected as the jeep rolled. She died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. UHP’s report concluded she was not wearing a seat belt.
It was noted that scattered showers had left parts of the freeway slightly wet at the time of the crash.
The Utah Department of Transportation tweeted that left lanes on both northbound and southbound I-15 were closed during the incident. All lanes were reported open by 8:45 p.m.
