HURRICANE – Hurricane Police Department responded to a call around 5:30 a.m. today concerning a vehicle that had crashed through a fence and into a home at 150 East 600 North.
When officers arrived at the scene, the vehicle was unoccupied, Hurricane Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said. Because the driver abandoned the vehicle, the incident is considered a hit-and-run.
Through their investigative efforts, officers were able to locate the driver, a man in his mid-late 30s, within one to two hours.
“Basically, the driver failed to maintain his lane travel,” Buell said. “He swerved off the road, he failed to maintain his travel lane that he’s required to maintain as he drove down the road.”
Buell said that it is suspected that there was some drug or alcohol related impairment of the driver that may have contributed to the driver’s crash. There were no reported passengers accompanying him and no reports of injuries.
There were no indications of speed, road conditions or other contributory factors.
No arrests have been made or citations issued as this is an ongoing investigation. Buell said the police report on conclusion of the investigation will be provided to the city attorney for any possible charges to be brought. Hurricane Police are not releasing the driver’s name at this time.
