Benefit concert to honor Cedar City man who died saving son

ST. GEORGE— This Saturday, at 7 p.m., a benefit concert will be held at Jazzy’s Rock N Roll Grill in honor of 35-year-old Jeremy William Gunter from Cedar City. Gunter was camping with his wife and four children, and his wife’s parents, at Otter Creek State Park when he lost his life providing aid to his son on Wednesday.

Chad Buck Jensen, a local musician and Reid Smeltzer, owner Jazzy’s Rock N Roll Grill, are collaborating with the Gunter family to create a benefit concert.

“It’s a busy weekend. We’re putting something together,” Jensen said. When asked if he knew the family he said no, he was simply inspired by the family’s story and wanted to jump in and help out.

“Jensen Buck and the Family” is the name of his band which is some of Jensen’s own original music and will be played with some buddies. “It’s country reggae,” Jensen said.

“We will be asking for donations throughout the night. We are finding sweet things to auction off as well.”

Smeltzer heard about the tragedy from Dutch, his sound engineer and they had previously discussed having Chad play Saturday night and Chad mentioned that something came up they should be involved with – referring to a possibly benefit for the Gunter family – so they all jumped on board.

“We just want to help the family out,” said Reid.

“We’ve raised thousands of dollars in the past for various benefits, cancer, helping people pay their medical bills, and more. We’re always happy to host a benefit and donate proceeds to help good causes,”  Smeltzer said.

Joining Jensen Buck and the Family are possibly two other bands, The Campground Band and another awaiting confirmation as Smeltzer and Jensen collaborate to put together the benefit tomorrow evening.

Since the event is open to the public, the public is also invited to bring items to auction off and donate to the Gunter family as well.

This Saturday, at 7 p.m. a benefit concert, and auction will be held at Jazzy’s Rock N Roll Grill. There is no charge for the event; however, there is a suggested donation of $5 per person. Furthermore Jazzy’s will also donate a portion of the evening sales.
