ST. GEORGE – A St. George man was arrested for rape Friday, following an investigation into a sexual assault reported on May 19.

St. George Police Department Sgt. Sam Despain said that the victim had identified William Rodger Kelly, 50, as the perpetrator after the assault. The SGPD has been investigating since and developed enough probable cause to arrest him.

Kelly was taken into custody just before 4 p.m. on Friday and booked into Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility on a first-degree felony count. Bail stands at $25,000.

Washington County Attorney Brock Belnap said that charges were filed Monday morning. His first court appearance is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday.

The investigation is still active.

Ed. Note: Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
