MOHAVE COUNTY, Ariz. – An 18-wheeler rolled on the Arizona stretch of Interstate 15 Monday afternoon. Traffic will be impacted later in the evening.
Arizona Highway Patrol Sgt. John Bottoms said one of the tires on the trailer being hauled blew out near Arizona milepost 14 on northbound I-15 around 3:15 p.m. The 18-wheeler drifted right and rolled into the sheer-rock face on the side of the roadway in the Virgin River Gorge.
The driver was able to walk away from the crash unharmed.
“It’s amazing (the driver) didn’t get injured the way the truck hit the rock,” Bottoms said.
Although crews are working to remove and transfer the cargo load for transport, the tractor-trailer is entirely off the road and northbound traffic is currently unaffected.
However, Bottoms said travel will be reduced to one lane once the wreckers arrive to haul away the tractor-trailer. He estimated those delays to occur sometime around 7 p.m. Arizona time, 8 p.m. Utah time.
