FBI offers reward for info on ‘Duffel Bag Bandit’ bank robber

SALT LAKE CITY – The FBI Salt Lake City Division is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the “Duffel Bag Bandit,” who is accused of robbing six banks in two states since December 2012. FBI Special agents and police detectives in Utah and Idaho have linked the adult male suspect to the following bank robberies:

  • March 28, 2013: State Bank of Southern Utah on 395 East St. George Blvd, St. George, Utah
  • March 6, 2013: U.S. Bank on Five Mile and Fairview in Boise, Idaho
  • February 26, 2013: Mountain America Credit Union on Royal Hunte Drive in Cedar City, Utah
  • January 22, 2013: Wells Fargo Bank, 3150 North Five Mile Road in Boise, Idaho
  • January 4, 2013: Washington Trust Bank on State Street in Garden City, Idaho
  • December 21, 2012: Chase Bank on Federal Way in Boise, Idaho

Witnesses to the bank robberies have described him as a white male, approximately 50 to 60 years old, with short gray hair. Some witnesses have described him as approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall and weighing between 145 and 180 pounds. He has been seen wearing, at various times, gray, green, or navy blue jackets; blue jeans; white sneakers; glasses; dark-colored ball caps; and has been seen carrying a red duffel bag. It is believed he wore a fake beard during a robbery in Boise on March 6, 2013.

During each robbery, he has either verbally demanded cash or displayed a note; no weapon has been reported.

Anyone who believes they may know the identity of this bank robber is asked to contact the FBI’s Salt Lake City Division at 801-579-1400. The public is reminded not to approach the individual and to contact law enforcement with information.
