ST. GEORGE – Western Sky Aviation Warbird Museum in St. George will be hosting an Armed Forces Celebration on Saturday from at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.. The event will celebrate the heroic bravery exhibited by the veterans of World War II, as well as the heroic actions of all our veterans in every war since.
The celebration will include exhibits featuring vintage military aircraft, including a tribute flyby performed by the famous P-52 Mustang in honor of all veterans who have served our nation.
Along with the exhibits, there will be rides in an authentic WWII T-6 Texan, and a silent auction that will benefit the museum.
The event’s highlight will be a presentation given by Capt. Richard Fleischer, a local resident of St. George, and Maj. Alden Rigby of Bountiful, Utah.
All veterans have reason to be admired, but what sets Fleischer and Rigby apart from other members of the WWII Army Air Corps, is their status as “Aces.” Ace is the title given to a pilot who has shot down five or more enemy planes in combat.
Even with today’s technology and smart weapons systems, shooting down another plane while in flight is no easy task. Accomplishing that feat, in an era when just being in the air was an accomplishment, is nothing short of impressive.
Those who make the effort to attend this Armed Forces Celebration will have the distinct honor and privilege to see and hear from these two men during their presentation beginning at 11 a.m.
After their presentation, Fleischer and Rigby will sign autographs to raise money for the museum.
The celebration will be concluded with a 1940’s Hangar Dance that will be held in the museum hangar from 7–10 p.m. Those who attend are encouraged to wear 1940s military and civilian attire.
