Concert Choir and Chamber Singers close DSU performing arts season

ST. GEORGE – The Dixie State University Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will close out the 2012-13 DSU Fine and Performing Arts season with a spring concert event Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Eccles Fine Arts Center Concert Hall on the DSU campus.

The DSU Concert Choir, led by Dr. Ken Peterson, will begin its six-song set with the Dan Forrest spiritual piece “My Jesus, I Love Thee” and the Simon and Garfunkel classic “The Sound of Silence.” The ensemble will also perform the Eric Whitacre composition “Oculi Omnium,” “Abide by Me” by John Cornish, the Z. Randall Stroope standard “Lamentations of Jeremiah” and the Philip Lawson arrangement of Toto’s 1983 hit “Africa.”

The DSU Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Robert Briggs, will perform seven numbers, beginning with Neil Ginsberg’s “We Sing of Golden Mornings” and “Sleep,” written by Eric Whitacre. The group will also delight the audience with a comical madrigal composed by Mozart entitled “Farmer’s Wife Lost Her Cat,” along with the Seth Houston standard “Stars I Shall Find,” which will feature three solo performances by students Dillon Miller, Chris Leonard and Joe Woolf.

The ensemble will conclude the evening’s performance with a pair of Shawn Kirchner numbers, “Angel Band” and “Wana Baraka,” and a short closing song composed by Dr. Briggs entitled “Chorister’s Creed and Benediction,” which is dedicated to the 2013 DSU Chamber Singers.

General admission tickets for the concert will be available at the door for $5 for adults and $1 for DSU students and faculty with current ID. Patrons may also purchase tickets prior to the performance at the Eccles Fine Arts Center or Avenna Center box offices or online.
