ST. GEORGE – Keith Collins was golden for the Panthers as he scored early in overtime to help Pine View secure a 1-0 win over Snow Canyon.
Collins took a cross from Danny Arrellano and buried it in the net from inside 20 yards for the game-winner.
It was an important win for the Panthers, who pull into a second-place tie with Desert Hills, just three points back of region-leader Dixie.
Justin Jones got the shutout for Pine View between the posts, while defenders Kevin Chavez, Kyler Prisbrey, Shean Gass and Shane Taylor helped the keeper shut down the Warriors attack.
PV, 5-5-0 overall and 5-3-0 in region play, is home for a match against 0-7 Canyon View Friday night at Panther Stadium.
The Warriors, 3-7-1 and 3-4-1, are eight points behind Dixie and play at Hurricane Friday night. Both Snow Canyon and Hurricane have 10 points and are tied for fourth place in region.
Dixie 1, Hurricane 0
The Flyers are alone in first place after defeating the Tigers on a first-half goal by McKlane Keenan. The sophomore scored his third goal of the season in the first half and goalkeeper Tristan Cowles and the Dixie defense made it stand up.
Cowles, a senior, now has 19 career shutouts including six this season. He had 12 last year in helping the Flyers to the state championship.
Dixie, 8-4-0 overall and 6-2-0 in region play, has 18 points and leads the field by three. The Flyers take Friday off before a visit to Snow Canyon next Tuesday.
Hurricane, 6-5-1 and 3-4-1, tries to stay in the playoff race with a battle at home vs. Snow Canyon Friday night.
