SALT LAKE CITY – When is the right time for a woman to lose her virginity? According to the 1,187 Salt Lake City women interviewed by SeekingArrangement.com, 20 is the “lucky number.”
SeekingArrangement.com, a popular dating site with over 2 million members nationwide, interviewed over 77,000 women in 24 major United States cities to determine trends in dating habits and sexual activity. The results showed that online dating generally increases casual dating among women, but also increases selectivity among those who are still virgins.
“The modern woman is much less idealistic; many realize that marriage doesn’t always end in bliss, so they date often and carefully,” said Brandon Wade, CEO and founder of SeekingArrangement.com. “Our study, which is the largest of its kind, proves that virgins do exist, and many now use online dating as a resource to find that special someone.”
Salt Lake City had the highest age of all the cities surveyed, with most women waiting until 20 to lose their virginity, compared to the national average of 18. One in seven Salt Lake City women are virgins.
A majority of the women surveyed, approximately 74 percent, claimed that online dating has increased their selectivity for finding “the one.”
Reasons for retaining virginity
- Connectivity/online dating/social networking – 74 percent
- Waiting until marriage – 18 percent
- Personal/religious beliefs – 6 percent
- Upbringing/culture – 1 percent
- Other – 1 percent
Wade said that SeekingArrangement.com consists of ideal men for women to date and aspire to marry: Men who are intelligent, successful, and wealthy. These types of men are openly generous and willing to take care of their partners or wives.
“Many women regret losing their virginity to a loser,” Wade said. “Virginity is something special that should be cherished for someone special, and online dating offers another avenue to find that perfect person.”

One in seven are virgins, or every one a virgin seven times?
I have to say this was the highlight of my week–what an asinine article! Must be a slow news day eh?
I went and looked at the website that submitted this article–it is a site advertising prostitution, so does your news organization endorse this? Interesting.
You three sound like the losers that they were talking about in this article.
I always wonder at the fascination people have with virginity. Why is it such a big deal for people to know how old someone was when they first had sex? As long as they are of an age to consent, it’s none of our business.
