Sen. Lee: Defund Obamacare and its false promises

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Wednesday, Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, delivered a speech on the Senate floor in support of the “Restore Growth First” amendment proposed by Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, which would defund Obamacare in the Continuing Resolution.

“Mr. President, almost everything the American people were told about Obamacare by the bill’s proponents has turned out to be false,” Lee said. “We were promised it would save money. Now we know it will cost money. In just two short years, the projected ten-year cost of the federal government’s health care takeover has ballooned from $940 billion to $1.76 trillion. We were promised it would help a struggling economy. Now we know it will smother the economy.

“The reason Sen. Cruz introduced and I support this amendment is that the case against Obamacare is rapidly moving from fears about tomorrow to pain felt today. In 2008, then-Sen. Obama promised his policies would lower health care premiums for the average American family by $2,500. Four years later, and two years after President Obama signed Obamacare into law, the Kaiser Foundation reports family health insurance premiums have actually risen by $2,370.

“Mr. President, the beauty of the Cruz amendment is that we don’t have to pass it to discover what it would do. We know what it would do. It would delay Obamacare, and thereby save taxpayer money and American jobs.”

I spent the winter of 2011-12 in St. George. I’m a BYU alumni, but no longer believe the right wing version of reality. The Senator is a product of generations massaged by Mormon ethics. The state of Utah has benefited for over a century of government help and assistence, include the Romney Olympics.

What do they really want? A world where weird is the way….
