TOQUERVILLE – A vehicle rollover late afternoon today shut down Interstate 15 in the area of mile marker 28 near Toquerville, in part to allow landing space for a Life Flight helicopter.

The single-vehicle accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. occurred when the driver of a 1994 white Honda Accord heading southbound over-corrected and rolled. Lt. Steve Winward with Utah’s Department of Public Safety said the reason for her over-correcting has not been determined.

The woman, 25, from St. George, who was driving was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle and injured. She was transported by Life Flight helicopter to Intermountain Southwest Region’s Dixie Regional Medical Center.  There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

Winward said the woman is listed in critical condition and may be paralyzed.

The left lane of I-15 southbound in the area of the accident remains closed for clean up as of 6:30 p.m. but is expected to open in short order.

Always wear your seatbelt. Always wear your seatbelt. I’ve had my life saved by one. Always wear your seatbelt. Repeat every time you get in your car.
