DJ to marry couples on Valentine’s Day, tie-the-knot free for all

ST. GEORGE – Many people get married on Valentine’s Day, yet how many get married by a radio disc jockey with a license to marry?

Jon Smith may best be known as one of the hosts of the Morning Show on 95.9 KZHK The Hawk., yet thanks to a call to American Marriage Ministries, $30 and a notary public later, he’s also legal to marry any happy couple who seeks to take advantage of his new position.

“We were looking for a unique way to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year,” Smith said, not wanting to just give away flowers and chocolates.  “Someone brought up the idea of letting people get married.”

Though 95.9 The Hawk has been promoting its Hawk Nuptials contest since Feb. 1, and a winner was announced Tuesday morning, couples don’t need to win in order to get a wedding on the radio.  Smith said anyone who shows up with a marriage license will be able to get hitched “live on the air” this Thursday.

If you would like to take advantage of this offer, simply show up with your bride or groom and a marriage license at the Crystal Inn, 1450 Hilton Drive in St George, between 4 and 6 p.m. on Valentine’s Day.

The Hawk will have extra bouquets and cake on hand just in case there are other happy couples out there ready to tie the knot for free – and get married by a DJ.
