HURRICANE  It’s no secret that Hurricane has been desperate for a win over the last few weeks. Cedar became the fourth out of Hurricane’s last five opponents to need a late surge to fend off the Tigers in a 59-46 victory on Friday.

Led by Dustin Staggs’ 16 points, the Redmen turned a six-point halftime lead into a 13-point lead in the third quarter and held off the Tigers in the fourth to escape Hurricane with the win.

Mike Hourigan recorded 14 points and Dason Coronado added 11 to help Cedar improve to 8-3 in Region 9. The Redmen wrap up the regular season at Pine View on Tuesday.

Cedar is currently tied with Desert Hills in second place in Region 9, one game behind Snow Canyon. The Redmen are at the Panthers, while the first-place Warriors are at Dixie and Desert Hills is home against sixth-place Canyon View. Any tie scenarios would be likely be settled by a coin toss as most of the tiebreakers are even (head-to-head, record vs. next highest region foe, etc.).

Shayden Hinton led the Tigers with 11 points as Garet Cahoon and Adam Massey each added 10 to round out the three players in double figures. Hurricane ends the season with just one total win and an 0-12 region record.
