UPDATE: This advisory is extended until 11 a.m. Saturday. New accumulation 3 to 8 inches of snow with the greatest accumulation of snow in the Pine Valley Mountains. Periods of snow will become widespread overnight and likely heavy at times. This snow will persist into the morning hours Saturday before tapering into showers. Motorists cautioned to prepare for winter driving, Highway 89 and the higher passes of Interstate 15 across southwest Utah in particular.
SOUTHERN UTAH – The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued winter weather advisory for snow, which is in effect until 11 p.m. tonight:
* Affected area: Southern Utah mountains.
* Snow accumulations: 8 to 18 inches with the greatest ccumulations on south facing slopes. The mountain valleys can expect 3 to 5 inches of snow. (See update at top of the story.)
* Timing: Developing from Thursday evening, heavy at times overnight through Friday. (Extended through Saturday, 11 a.m.)
* Impacts: Accumulating snow will likely affect roadways through the southern mountains and southern mountain valleys. Motorists should prepare for winter driving conditions. Highway 89 and Pine Valley Mountains, higher passes of Interstate 15 across Southwest Utah particularized for extended time period, Friday evening through Saturday morning.
* Precautionary/preparedness actions:
A winter weather advisory means that snow accumulations will primarily cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads.
