SOUTHERN UTAH – The Utah Department of Transportation advises motorists that southbound traffic on Interstate 15 in Southern Utah is being diverted to Enterprise west of Cedar City, and then south to St. George, due to a fuel-tanker roll-over accident at milepost 40.

The accident shut down the freeway in both directions at approximately 3 a.m. today as emergency responders were forced to use the northbound lanes to approach the accident.

Fuel is being transferred to a second truck dispatched from Cedar City.

The accident is located approximately 20 miles south of Cedar City.  Southbound traffic is being detoured to state Route 56 westbound at Cedar City at Exit 59, and then southbound on state Route 18 at Enterprise, rejoining I-15 at St. George.

A second accident involving semi-trucks on I-15 northbound at milepost 39 is also blocking traffic.

Commuters between Cedar City and St. George should be prepared for additional travel time and delays. Early morning commuters in St. George can expect increased traffic on Bluff Street.
