WASHINGTON D.C. – Sen. Orrin Hatch issued the following statement after Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner said the White House is willing to go over the fiscal cliff over the top two marginal tax rates:
“This is one of the most stunning and irresponsible statements I’ve heard in some time. Going over the fiscal cliff will put our economy, jobs, people’s paychecks and retirement at risk, but that is what the White House wants, according to Secretary Geithner, if they don’t get their way. The American people want us to find a reasonable path forward – not to rattle our sabers and play this dangerous game that will impact the lives of nearly every single American. It’s time for some real leadership from the President. Instead of threatening to take America over the cliff, it’s time for the White House to come to the table in a meaningful way.”

Yes, Orrin, go ahead and rattle your saber. We’ll be keeping you to your pledge that this is your last term in office. We are watching…
Because you think we should go over the cliff Karen?
No, I don’t think we should go over the cliff at all. I think saber-rattling on both sides serves no purpose. Besides, the Republicans are backed up against the wall. Look for a tax rate hike on the top 2%, hopefully before Christmas, at least by the first of the year.
