ST. GEORGE – The Democrats of Southern Utah and Washington County Democratic Party of Utah have an exciting schedule of events lined up for the coming months.

Christmas party and anniversary

This year marks the anniversary of the formation of the Washington County Democratic Women, which grew into the Democrats of Southern Utah ten years ago. A celebration, combined with the annual Democrats of Southern Utah Christmas party, will be held Dec. 10 at 6 p.m. at the Best Western Abbey Inn in St. George. Past presidents of the organization have been invited and will be honored, and anyone in the community who has related memorabilia or newspaper clippings is encouraged to share them at the party. Reservations are due by this Thursday and can be made by contacting Joyce Spinelli at 435-656-3601 or Renate Riggs at 435-628-2841.

Obama inauguration gala

An even grander celebration is planned for Jan. 21, 2013 in honor of President Barack Obama’s second term inauguration. Attendees will enjoy a delicious dinner, dancing and the opportunity to watch the inaugural ball on television. The location and cost have not been finalized, so please check back on the Washington County Democratic Party of Utah website.

Permanent office hours

The Utah State Democratic Party Southern Utah Field Office, located at 429 North Bluff Street in St. George, will remain open on a permanent basis following an active campaign season. The Utah State Democratic Party has observed a surge of interest in the local chapter and has opted to partially fund its continuing operation. The public is encouraged to stop in during business hours, Tuesday and Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m., to discover how they can get involved in activities or to volunteer.
