SALT LAKE CITY – Though snow has barely touched the ground in some parts of the state, one group of Utahns, the turkey hunters, are already preparing for next spring.
The limited-entry hunt will be held in April 2013. Permits are available in each of the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources’ five regions: Northern (400 permits,) Central (500 permits,) Northeastern (250 permits,) Southeastern (250 permits) and Southern (1,100 permits.)
Permit applications during the limited-entry hunt will be accepted starting Dec. 5 and must be received no later than 11 p.m. on Dec. 27. Hunters can apply online.
If you don’t draw a limited-entry permit, don’t pack your gun away; you can still hunt turkeys in the general statewide hunt in May. Permits go on sale Feb. 21.
More information about the 2013 turkey hunting season is available in the 2012-2013 Utah Upland Game and Turkey Guidebook. It is available for free online, from DWR offices and hunting and fishing license agents across Utah.
