IRON COUNTY – A wildfire ignited 20 miles northwest of Cedar City Monday afternoon.
Reported around 4:20 p.m., fire crews did not arrive at the scene of the “Roundabout Fire” until about 6:30 p.m. as they were hampered by poor access due to the terrain. The fire is burning in a wilderness area called Horse Valley.
The fire is estimated to be at 100 acres in size and is 0 percent contained as of 7:30 p.m. Fire behavior is active, but becoming moderate as night sets in.
No road closures are in effect and no injuries have been reported in connection with the fire, and no structures are threatened at this time. No evacuations have been called.
Resources on hand to combat the fire include seven fire engines, one squad, one water tender and miscellaneous overhead. One 20-person crew and two dozers have been ordered for tomorrow morning.
The fire is believed to be human-caused and it currently under investigation.
