DSC Business Ethics Forum returns, debut presentation set for Sept. 20

ST. GEORGE – Dixie State College of Utah’s Udvar-Hazy School of Business will begin its Business Ethics Forum series for the 2012-13 academic year on Sept. 20, featuring a presentation by certified public accountant Steve Radmall.

The vice president of the Savage, Esplin & Radmall, PC accounting firm, Radmall has spent nearly 30 years as a CPA and witnessed firsthand how technology has impacted his profession. His experiences are chronicled in his presentation, “Accounting as a Cure for Insomnia,” along with thoughts on common tax breaks and how decisions regarding ethics have shaped accounting.

Radmall is a graduate of Southern Utah University and worked as a tax manager before joining the firm in 1990. He also serves on the boards of Seed Dixie and and the Dixie Regional Medical Center Foundation.

Business Ethics Forum was created by former DSC president Dr. Robert Huddleston in 2006 as a way to integrate ethics into business students’ curriculum, as well as stressing the importance of ethics on local business owners. His hope is that by the time students leave DSC, they will have been exposed to enough ethical cases that, when they are in the workforce, they will have the fortitude to always do the right thing, even when their job may be on the line.

“As research indicates, ethics contribute to employee commitment, investor loyalty, customer satisfaction and to profits,” he said.

The series will continue with presentations by Berkley Geddes, president of the Ogden-based GrowAmerica on Oct. 4, City of St. George councilwoman Gail Bunker on Oct. 18, businessman Jeff Stewart on Nov. 1, Best Buy manager Greg Whitehead on Nov. 15, and Utah state legislator Brad Last on Dec. 6. All are free and DSC students, faculty and staff, the entire Washington County business community and the general public are invited to attend.
