MOHAVE COUNTY – Repaving work on a 16-mile segment of Interstate 15 in northwest Arizona continues next week, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Due to weather-related delays the work schedule will be adjusted. Drivers can expect the following:

●     Work will resume at midnight Monday, Sept. 3

●     Work hours will be 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. seven days per week through September

  •  A single-lane closure will be in effect 24 hours per day through each work zone, which will allow crews to remove old pavement and apply new pavement more efficiently
  • The northbound left lane will be closed from 10 p.m. Monday, Sept 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5
  • The northbound right lane will be closed from Wednesday evening Sept. 5 through Sunday, Sept. 9

●     There will be no restrictions on southbound I-15 through Sept. 9

The speed limit through the work zone will be reduced to 45 mph.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

The $11.6 million project, which is scheduled for completion by the end of October, includes removal of a layer of the existing pavement and repaving the roadway from the Virgin River Gorge to the Utah State line (mileposts 13-29).

Individuals seeking to avoid the repaving work in the Virgin River Gorge are advised to take Highway 91 as an alternate route. The highway bypasses the gorge entirely. Southbound travelers will reconnect with I-15 at  Littlefield, Ariz, while northbound travelers will follow the route into Santa Clara and then St. George via Sunset Boulevard.

ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
